San Francisco is certainly near the top of my list of favorite places. I’ve visited many times over the years and love walking the neighborhoods and admiring the magnificent historic homes. I love the arches, the turrets and the bay windows and how, no matter how many times I walk down one of these streets, I always seem to find something new.
In San Francisco (Oil on Canvas, 32 x 40, 2022), I’ve painted a colorful collection of Victorian-era facades taken from the streets around Duboce Park, a neighborhood where I have spent a great deal of time. This is my first painting of the city and I wanted to focus on the iconic architecture and hilly terrain in a way that would instantly identify the locale as San Francisco. People viewing it in the studio in New Orleans immediately know it’s the equally colorful neighbor to the west, without needing to read the title. I look forward to painting many more scenes of San Francisco over the next few years.
